What does ChouAmi mean?

In French, Chou means cabbage and Ami means friend. ChouAmi is your trusted friend who will help you make consistent and health-promoting cultured foods with ease and style day after day, year after year.

Is it safe to ferment with stainless steel?

Yes! ChouAmi is made from grade 304 stainless steel. Wine makers and commercial live-cultured kraut makers also use stainless steel vats for fermentation.

If I already own a Le Parfait glass jar, can I get ChouAmi without it?

For the purpose of the Kickstarter campaign, we’re only doing the Fermentation Kit, which includes one ChouAmi fermenting device AND one 1-liter Le Parfait jar. We hope to bring ChouAmi to market after the campaign, and you’ll be able to purchase ChouAmi by itself on www.chouami.com. Look out for upcoming announcements!

Where is the Le Parfait glass jar made?

Le Parfait has been making durable and sustainable glass jars in Puy-Guillaume, a small town in France since 1930. Visit www.leparfait.com to learn more about the process and the company’s environmentally friendly practices.

Does the glass jar contain lead?

Le Parfait glass jars are a soda-lime-silica glass, which has NO lead added in the formula during fabrication. Additionally, Le Parfait glass adheres to the highest level of European/French standards for glass approved for use with food products, which are more stringent than current US governmental regulations. Best of all - these jars can be fully recycled into brand new glass jars!

How is ChouAmi different from Kraut Source?

We’re glad you asked. ChouAmi is an updated version of Kraut Source designed specifically to fit onto the Familia Wiss terrine-style glass jars made by Le Parfait. The system works in exactly the same way as Kraut Source.

If I already own a Kraut Source, why should I back your project?

Great question! Kraut Source was designed to work with American-made Ball or Kerr mason jars. While these jars work great, the curved neck of the quart-size and half-gallon size jars hamper the ability to put in and take out ingredients. The French-made Le Parfait jars have straight edges, making it much easier to put in and take out ingredients. In addition, Le Parfait jars are readily available all around the world, making it possible for us to spread the joy of small-batch, at-home fermentation to an international audience.

I pledged triple the amount of the Stylish reward level. I’m getting three ChouAmis, right?

Not automatically. Any amount pledged over the reward level will be considered a donation to the campaign. It won’t be counted as amount pledged for multiple units of a reward item in that level. If you’d like to get multiple units of a reward item, you’ll have the opportunity to add on additional items, or apply the balance from your pledge to additional items after the campaign officially ends.

When can I expect to receive my reward?

We anticipate fulfilling rewards in September 2020. We hope this won’t be the case, but if any unforeseen production or shipping issues arise which might prevent us from hitting that target, we’ll be open and honest and convey our solutions through relevant Kickstarter communications. Please refer to the Risks and Challenges portion of our campaign for details.

Last updated: July 31, 2020 15:31

How do I know I’ll get my reward? What if I give you my money and you disappear?

We understand. The Kickstarter concept was founded in the spirit of trust and openness. We take this responsibility very seriously, and we’re proud of the fact that Karen Diggs, the creator of two previous Kickstarter campaigns (Kraut Source and Lemonayo), has successfully fulfilled rewards to over 3,500 backers worldwide!

How do I tell people about your project?

We’re so thrilled you’re excited! Please share our Kickstarter page widely to your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, teammates, church buddies, or just about anyone you think will love to make their own fermented foods! There are social media sharing tools at the top of the page for your convenience.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
